Message: I am confused about the explanation in the August visit. Did the three gentlemen confirm wolves or this the indicate that the tracks were from their Mastiff?
Reply: No worry. There are no wolves on South Fox Island. The mastiff was the culprit. I'm not a hunter, but when I saw the tracks Don and Gary Staufer had found, I thought they were too big for a wolf. But the mastiff from the ranch has the right size to make that kind of prints.
Message: have been deer hunting on S. Fox from the mid 1970's, (missed 2 years) and have been to the light house many times. Have a picture of the steel life boat from the light house used as a water tank at the old lumber and deer camp years ago. The life boat was hung up in some trees with chains and during the day, water was pumped up into it from a shallow well. Then during dinner time and doing dishes, water was flowing from the old life boat by gravity
Have spent many days marking trails and cutting them out for David Johnson to ride horses about the island. Have you had any talks with David Johnson about the light house and getting some help from him ? Keep up the good work.
