I love S. Fox Island and was so-o-o delighted when we visited there on Tuesday, July 31. While walking around the old lighthouse and giving my friends what little history I knew the door of the brick house opened. Wow! I have never seen another person on the island. It was Phil von Voigtlander and now, thanks to Phil I found your web site know of your organization. Way to go. I will join - and pay dues. Keep up the good news.

You should open a website store to sell all the goodies that people like me buy. The lighthouse is looking good. You've done well.

We were privileged to work on South Fox Island on 7-18-2007. It is a great historical site. In the log book of GTLM we suggested that as many as possible have the honor of helping restore such a great island. We enjoyed it more that we ever thought we would. Thanks to the staff of GTLM to incorporate that into our lighthouse stay during the week of 7-13 to 7-20, 2007. Very much appreicated. Sincerely, Bill & Ardith Oomkes

I am delighted to find this website and see that this beautiful lighthouse has not been forgotten. I was one of those 10 Michigan Youth Corps workers who worked on it in 1984. I have never forgotten the experience. I live in Maryland now, but wish I could be there to help.

South Fox Island has special meaning for my family. My grandparents, Joyce & Skip Diehl, lived in the lighthouse when they were first married. It would have been about 1945 and my grandfather was in the Coast Guard and stationed at the Lighthouse. Imagine them being 20 years old, just married, first time living out of their parents' homes and living out there. They were only allowed off of the island once a month when a boat would pick them up to do grocery shopping. My grandmother always teased that the only reason why they stayed married that first year is because she couldn't swim far enough back to shore!

You guys are the best! So glad we got to meet you during our stop at South Fox Island - one of the coolest places in Michigan, from a nautical buff's perspective. I look forward to seeing you out there again!

My children and I will be spending the month of July in Northport, Michigan. I hope we can spend some time working on South Fox Island. I know that there must be plenty to do and little money to do it with. Please let us know if we can be of assistance.
